In Hungary, ovarian tissue freezing was performed for the first time in prepubertal children treated for oncological diseases at the Semmelweis University Pediatric Center. During the procedure, the ovaries are removed, frozen and then transplanted back into the abdominal cavity in adulthood, in order to enable later childbearing. The side effects of certain medical treatments of childhood cancers (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, bone marrow transplants) can lead to poor ovarian function, hormonal imbalances and eventually infertility.

The ensemble performed Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem, and for the first time, the Semmelweis University Choir was invited to join the orchestra.
